I am a major fan of the original Darksiders with it’s sexy blend of Devil May Cry and The Legend of Zelda with a touch of Metroid thrown in for extra tangyness. It is an orgy of action, puzzles, beautiful artwork, and big muscley men punching one another in the face. Hell even the way War opened chests was by literally punching them in the face.

Darksiders II is coming out August 14th which is this coming Tuesday and that day cannot come fast enough. DSII will feature massive levels to explore and on top of the masterful combat system they even included a loot system to satisfy my need for shiny new equipment. So if a game with the artwork of Warhammer, combat of a Devil May Cry/God of War, puzzles and dungeons of The Legend of Zelda (but on a much grander scale), loot collecting of Diablo, platforming of Prince of Persia, gadget based progression into new areas throughout the world like Metroid (or for younger players the Batman Arkham games), and the best of all sweet ass horses doesn’t get you giddy as a school girl then you might want to take up a new hobby like golf…

We know it’s all about the horses!

SO as you might have figured out form the headline this is either about making art from dust or the art of From Dust. Well if you were hoping for cheap hobo art then you will be sorely disappointed. Here is the new Dev Diary for From Dust focusing on the games art direction, environments, and atmosphere. Enjoy!

I don’t know why I haven’t told all of you about my obsession with the release of this game but I am now here to tell you that I have been waiting for this game for at least 4 years now as when I initially learned about the game it was slated for a 2008 release. Developed by Deep Silver a fantastic Polish group, this action survival game will be out later this year. This is one of my most anticipated games in a very long time as I don’t know if I have told all of you this but I am a HUGE zombie addict. I love everything zombies and when it comes to zombie games I am usually disappointed with how they turn out. Despite what most zombie trends follow, I enjoy the good ol’ classic Romero shamblers. The old resident evil games are one of the best examples of not needing fast zombies to deliver an intense game. Unfortunately Capcom has lost it’s way recently but I have hopes for their upcoming game but that will be another post :)

Anyways, here are some features and a little info about the game from the developers.

Dead Island combines first-person action with a heavy focus on melee combat, character development and customization of a vast array of weapons. All of these gameplay features presented in a dark story inspired by classic zombie movies with a gritty and engrossing campaign that can be played with up to 4 players in co-op mode.

If you haven’t seen anything about this game yet I assure you it has a brilliant atmosphere about it. A great example of the developers ability to set a tone and deliver action is hinted at in this masterful video.

From Dust is an upcoming downloadable game from Ubisoft that is looking to be a very promising game. The project is being helmed by Eric Chahi, who has been fairly quiet in the industry for many years. Some of you may remember his work with Interplay in the 90’s on Out of this World and Heart of Darkness which are some of my favorite classic platformers. Now he is bringing us a very unique god simulator in the vein of Black & White or Populous. Not a lot of information has been released for From Dust but I assure you, the moment they open the information floodgates I will be there to report what I can! If I started telling you that I am excited about a game that is not yet released that has low-res graphics and procedurally generated worlds that let’s you mine, craft, build, and fight monsters with your friends you would assume I was talking about Minecraft. But this is not Minecraft it is Terraria, an AASRPG (the title will tell you what that means) that has a large pallet of craftable items, many unique and horrifying monsters, and a very charming retro look to it.

You will be able to explore procedurally generated worlds in a manner like a 16-Bit Metroidvania style game that lets you build a fortress only to defend it against hordes of horrifying monsters such as Goblin armies, large land serpents that burrow in the ground called Destroyer of Worlds, and the Eye of Cthulhu!

Oh, and did I mention you will be able to do all of this with at least three other friends? 

Terraria has no announced release date yet but it is already my most anticipated game and I will be happy to sink many long hours into this little gem.

I bet the title got your attention, well if it didn’t then you spend too much time on the internet. A ton of new screen shots for Saints Row: The Third was released and well I will let a few of them speak for me.

Lets just get it out in the open, I am a huge Warhammer fan. I love everything about the Warhammer universe and when I first found out that Relic was making a 3rd person shooter based on the 40K universe I was ecstatic. Finally a game that will show the shear brutality of Warhammer 40K! Look for it later this fall.

If you haven’t heard of this little indie gem then you need to climb out of your Minecraft shelter and read some articles from time to time. It is the very first of it’s genre, a FPSTD (and no it is not a First Person Sexually Transmitted Disease) which stands for First Person Shooter Tower Defense! It plays much like other TD (Tower Defense) games in that you place various towers in a maze like pattern to try and stop an ever increasing horde of enemies from getting to your base. The major difference is that you do all of this from a first person view and can shoot enemies with a gun. 

Not only do you have the option to upgrade towers between each wave but you can also upgrade your guns which are the Assault Rifle, Sniper Rifle, and Freeze Gun. Another huge feature that sets Sanctum apart from other TD games is that it can be played with 2 players (the developers have stated that they want to make it 4 player in the future) in a co-op mode.

I have been playing the beta for a few days now it is is a lot of fun. If you’re a fan of either TD games or FPS’s then this might be right up your tower filled alley!
